Implant supported prosthetics has changed everything we know about false teeth, with them we’re not just replacing but are able to rebuild your teeth. Working with our staff at Lehigh Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, we can discuss and then construct a treatment plan taking your dental, medical and financial needs into consideration. There are options that can improve your function, widen the range of foods that you can chew and help you feel more confident while socially engaging.

Dentures

Wearing a full or partial denture is a reality of life for many adults. Additionally, we are living longer and seeking adventure more than ever before. Traditional denture appliances are not known for being comfortable and more often than not, a source of embarrassment. With limited function and the possibility of falling out, many patients find dentures frustrating. We can change that.

With the advancement of dental implants, we can permanently retain your denture in your mouth. This means that they will not rock on your gums causing irritation, they will not accidentally slip out when talking, and you don’t have to use caution when chewing. With dental implants, your denture will stay where it belongs, in your mouth.

Implant Retained Dentures

A dental implant is a threaded titanium post that is inserted directly into your jawbone. It comes in a variety of styles with varying widths and lengths depending on the system being used. Implant supported dentures come with options including:
•  Single Implant: A single tooth implant is used to retain a single missing tooth or as an anchor for one side of a dental bridge or partial denture.
•  Multiple Implants: Multiple tooth implants can be used to restore multiple single teeth or as anchors for a variety of dental prosthetics including a bridge or denture.
•  All-on-4® Treatment Concept: The All on 4 system uses four longer dental implants that are placed through a full arch denture and then into denser bone. With this system the denture is permanently placed, it is not removable.
•  Overdentures: Overdentures also uses multiple dental implants but provides a removable option. The denture is able to snap on and off. This option is sometimes preferred for more medially delicate patients who would find it easier to remove the denture for cleaning. When the overdenture is snapped in place it is held firmly in place.
•  Bar Retained Dentures: Bar retained dentures includes multiple implants and a bar that the denture is hooked to for retention. This option is preferred by more medically delicate patients who prefer the option to remove the denture for cleaning.
•  Trefoil™: Trefoil is a system used to restore the bottom arch of teeth. It uses three dental implants and a framework to attach the denture to for permanent retention.

Why Implant Retained Dentures?

Implant retained dentures allow the patient considerably more freedom, primarily the freedom to forget that you are wearing dentures. Loose dentures bring a lot of frustrations, they will never feel like your natural teeth. Dental implants allow you the closest feeling to your own natural teeth because they are a replacement root system and work much the same way. By reestablishing the connection between your jawbone and teeth, we can improve the health of your bone, provide structure to your face, and improve your chewing function.

We invite you to learn more about implant retained dentures and see what option best fits you. For more information, contact our Allentown at (610) 435-6161.
