Hair Rejuvenation and Skin Rejuvenation

When you look in the mirror, are you happy with what you see? Is your hair beginning to thin in places? Is your skin beginning to show signs of aging, such as uneven tone and texture? If these issues are affecting you, your confidence may also be impacted. At Lehigh Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, we can help to restore fuller hair and a more youthful appearance with hair and skin rejuvenation.

Dr. Johri is also a licensed Medical Physician (M.D.) and he is trained in non-surgical hair restoration using PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma). When hair starts to lose it thickness and starts to fall out easier (ie: when showering or combing the hair), repeated PRP injections have shown to be clinically effective.

PRP is harvested from blood that is drawn from the patient's arm. This blood undergoes a specific centrifugation protocol to concentrate the Platelets. Platelets contain a variety of growth factors (VEGF, PDGF). These platelets are then injected with a tiny needle directly into the patient's scalp in the areas of thinning hair. The injections are typically repeated every 4-6 months. The growth factors will help the hair follicles repair cellular damage and grow hair thicker and stronger over time. This is very effective for early onset hair loss in men and women who don't necessarily need hair transplants but are seeking a less invasive and less costly hair rejuvenation alternative. For women, this is also beneficial for thinning eyebrows.

What Is Hair Rejuvenation?

Thinning hair is an issue thought to be only associated with men, but it can affect women as well. It can be caused by a variety of different issues, including genetics, menopause, and even stress. Fortunately, thinning hair can be treated with hair rejuvenation. Hair rejuvenation is a treatment that involves the use of PRP, or platelet-rich plasma. A non-surgical treatment, PRP helps to stimulate the growth of new hair, giving you back a fuller head of hair.

Who Is a Candidate for Hair Rejuvenation?

Ideal candidates for hair rejuvenation are in the early stages of hair loss, or who have just started noticing the signs of thinning hair. PRP for hair loss cannot provide effective results for those who have suffered a significant amount of hair loss. The earlier hair loss is treated, the more likely it is to stimulate the growth of new hair.

What Is Skin Rejuvenation?

As you age, your skin starts to change. You may start to notice changes in the tautness, the coloration, and even the texture of your skin. Lines and wrinkles may be beginning to form. While makeup can help to cover up some of these issues, they cannot cover all of them. Just as PRP can be used to rejuvenate your hair, it can be used to rejuvenate your skin. It can also be used in conjunction with other treatments, such as dermal fillers and laser treatments to help produce even greater results.

Candidates for Skin Rejuvenation

You may be a good candidate for skin rejuvenation if you are looking for a non-surgical, minimally invasive way to improve the tone, texture, and overall appearance of your skin. It is also important that you be in good overall health and have realistic expectations about the outcome of your procedure.

How Is Hair and Skin Rejuvenation Done?

Hair and skin rejuvenation uses PRP or platelet-rich plasma. PRP is a product that is created from your blood. Before we begin your procedure, we take a small sample of your blood. The sample is spun through a centrifuge, separating out the plasma and platelets from the red blood cells. We remove the plasma and inject it into the specific treatment areas using a multi-needle tool. The tool perforates the skin, creating injuries. The platelets in your blood go to work sending out growth factors while triggering the body to send even more platelets. These platelets aid in stimulating the growth of new collagen while stimulating the growth of new tissue. For hair rejuvenation, this process also triggers the growth of new hair. Often, more than one treatment is needed to provide the best results possible.
